Sweet Pea – Soft tissue sarcoma at 16

Sweet Pea’s leg was sent off for biopsy and we received the results on Tuesday 9/5: “Given the fine-needle aspiration diagnosis of presumptive sarcoma, the biopsy results are a bit surprising – Adenocarcinoma. The pathologist is concerned that this tumor is a metastasis from a separate primary site. We did not find any primary tumors on staging prior to surgery, but there was atelectasis noted in the right lungs per the radiologist on the chest x-rays. If Sweet Pea’s appetite does not improve significantly in the next 7-10 days I think it may be worth rechecking chest x-rays without sedation…..” – This meant that there was a chance that the amputation did “not” remove all her cancer as we initially had hoped it would given the presumptive diagnosis of sarcoma. Sweet Pea had not been eating on her own for some time and we had begun syringe feeding her. Through everything, though, she was still losing weight. Sweet Pea had a bit of a rough day on Thursday 9/7. She let me know that evening that she couldn’t fight any longer and I knew we couldn’t put her through anymore. On Friday 9/8 with the assistance of Lap of Love we gave Sweet Pea the one final gift that we knew without a doubt would bring her peace. We helped her on her journey to the Rainbow Bridge……..Godspeed my baby girl. You changed the path of our lives the moment you adopted us. We miss you so much and will cherish the many memories we were blessed to make with you.

    Ohhhhh no, I’m so sorry to read this sad news about your sweet girl. My heart and many condolences go out to you and your family.

    Always remember that you gave Sweet Pea the best life EVER. What a lucky kitty to have her humans so devoted right to her very last breath. As difficult as it was to make that call, you allowed her to exit this world with dignity and grace. Sweet Pea went on to her next “assignment” as a young, joyful and fulfilled soul. Nobody, animal or human, could ever ask for more.

    I’m so sorry. Please share more about her long life with you if you feel up to it. Although she was only part of this community for a short time, you two will always be family.

    {{{hugs}}}}

    Ohhhh no. I am so very, very, sorry. We are all family here and it just breaks our heart to read this.

    It’s a nasth, brutal, cruel, unpredictable, vicious piece of crap disease. Wll we can do is TRY…..TRY and do everything we can to give our pets a chance. To not try, even though things don’t turn out like we hope, is just not in our nature when we @ove sooooooo hard. And make no mistake abput it, Sweet Pea KNEW sheewas loved!

    And Sweet Pea knew you loved her enough to release her from her earthly body that no longer served her. She knew you would give her the gift of being free from pain and whole and healthy and young again! And she is now all of those things.

    Yes, please do share more when you can and with ohotos of this very special Soul. I loooove the photo you posted today. Such a beautiful treasured memory of a life well loved….and well loved.

    Sending you love and hugs

    PS. Pay atte tion…..Sweet Pea will send you signs she is still with you and feeling vibrant and happy. Let us know when you see/feel/hear her messages

    So very sorry you did not get a longer gift of time with amputation, but I hope the diagnosis and biopsy helped give clarity at this most difficult point. She had the gift of your love to the last and departed for the bridge wrapped in that love. I am glad her transition was made more peaceful by the in home service. Wishing you comfort in so many memories and wishing brave, beautiful Sweet Pea a wonderful time at the bridge napping in sun puddles and chasing butterflies dancing on the breeze.

    We are so very sorry for you! Sweet Pea has a very special Mum! You tried to go to the moon and back for her, but she needed to say goodbye! My heart is honestly aching for you right now! My husband and I love our feline fur babies to pieces and losing them is sooooo hard! You tried everything you could for her and she will be a very special angel for you!
    Like Sally says, pay attention to the signs She sends you and say hello when she does! (Every now and again, even four years later, my Mojo’s name will accidentally pop out and I always smile and say “Hello my Mojo!”)
    In the meantime, take very good care of yourself and hugs to you and your family. Such a beautiful picture of Sweet Pea, by the way!
